Overdrive 2.0 released

Overdrive 2.0 is ready to redefine inkjet RIP software expectations. Gone are the days of complicated color management workflows and tedious ICC profiling to add a new paper. Overdrive 2.0 works on top of your printer’s driver and RGB paper profiles to make accurate color automatic and effortless. Now a 64-bit Cocoa application, Overdrive 2 offers significantly faster processing, a new visual interface, and improved print quality. Pantone matching and Adobe Black Point Compensation are also included. A 15-day demo of Overdrive 2 is now available, and lower introductory pricing makes Overdrive 2 a tremendous value. As a thank you to our current Overdrive 1 users, Overdrive 2.0 is a free upgrade - simply use your version 1 serial number to run version 2.

Overdrive 2.0 (Beta) achieves a 0.78 Delta E average from an IT8.7/4 target

ColorBurst Systems performed internal testing of the upcoming Overdrive 2.0 RIP to determine color accuracy on the Epson 7890 large format inkjet printer. After making a custom RGB profile, an IT8.7/4 target was printed to a reference of a #1 press sheet. The Delta E(ab) total average for 1617 patches was 0.78. This was slightly more accurate than testing with Overdrive 1 (results were 0.86) and well within industry standards of a maximum average of 1.5. With this level of color accuracy, Overdrive 2 will be an excellent choice for high-end color proofing.

Overdrive 2.0 will be a free upgrade for Overdrive v1 users

Overdrive 2, still in development, is shaping up to be a significant improvement over Overdrive 1 in both speed and print quality, especially text. As a thank you to our current Overdrive users, we are offering a free upgrade to Overdrive 2.0 when it is released in 2012. Free upgrades will be offered at the same size as the Overdrive 1 license (for example, Overdrive 17" v1 will be upgraded to Overdrive 17" v2). Full upgrade details will be available when version 2.0 is released.

The software engineers at ColorBurst Systems anticipate a release of Overdrive 2.0 in January 2012. This new version has been completely rewritten from scratch as a 64-bit Cocoa application for Mac OS X 10.6 and later. Overdrive 2 is based on a completely different architecture that will take full advantage of today’s multi-processor computers.
